The Serpent Festival

“Within the Hill lies a legend - the Tale of the Clee Hill Serpent."

A story made by the hill itself and the surrounding landscape.

The climate on Titterstone Clee is unique; if it’s sunny on the hill, it’s raining down in Ludlow - when the summit is hidden by fog, (or Serpents Breath) Ludlow enjoys a sunny day.

TITTERSTONE

Snow on Clee Hill is a legend in its own right!

So what causes the strange climate on the slopes of Titterstone Clee? The Serpent of course!

To celebrate the story and the wonderful uniqueness of Titterstone Clee, the Serpent Festival burst forth from the creative mind of one who had heard the Hill tell its tale.

The first Serpent Festival was held at the Royal Oak Public House, on the 11th October 2008. A small event, but a resounding success. The Tale of the Clee Hill Serpent was told in full, by Storyteller Andy Harrop-Smith, it was followed by the Magic and Music of Rob Chapman. The night ended with a stomping good set from local rock band Yel Piracy.

The Second Serpent Festival was an All-dayer with even more Magic, Music and Stories, with an Essence of Chaos Folk.

In October 2009, the Festival achieved what it set out to do, to honour the Serpent and the Hill with more Stories and fabulous Music from Damh the Bard and Paul Newman.

Sunset over the Giant's Chair

In April 2010, the last Serpent event was held, with Suzanne telling the Clee Hill Giants story with a Serpent Twist, and mind blowing magic from Mark Townsend.

The Tale of the Serpent will be slithering off the hill and out into the wider world, with Travelling Tales.
