Telling the Tales of Our Land

Suzanne by some mistletoe

Based on Clee Hill, near Ludlow in South Shropshire, Cranesfield Bardic Arts was founded by Suzanne Thomas to bring the stories and legends of the local Landscape to a new audience.

After searching books and the internet, for stories of Titterstone Clee, and finding, well, not very much, Suzanne decided to "look to the Hills" and found inspiration there.

The result is Stories of Giants, Fairies and Magical Creatures, which are told alongside the more traditional to create a feast for the imagination. (Button Soup for starters anyone?)

The Crane logo started life as a doodle on the back of an envelope, and the name “Cranesfield” is derived from one of the translations for the name “Coreley”, a small hamlet on the southern slopes of the Hill.

Titterstone Clee

The aim is to introduce children and adults alike to the wonders of the Bardic Art of Storytelling by the use of workshops, demonstrations and performance.

The first event was the Serpent Festival in October 2008, an evening of Story, Magic and Music.  The walls of the function room at the Royal Oak Pub on Clee Hill, were decorated with over one hundred pictures, drawn, painted, or glued together by the pupils at Clee Hill Primary School, after hearing the Tale of the Clee Hill Serpent.
